Breadbox adapter for BMW K models - connecting new speedometers to the original connector
With the breadbox adapter, new accessory speedometers can be easily connected to the original 24-pin speedometer plug of various BMW K models that are still equipped with the classic “breadbox” speedometer.
The adapter evaluates the signals from the original connector and passes them on via 10 wires. All necessary functions are integrated to ensure smooth compatibility with modern speedometers:
-Signal processing: adaptation of the transmission switch signals to generate a standardized neutral signal.
-Excitation coil: Integrated load for the charge controller.
-Start button: Activation only in neutral position.
-Reserve indicator:
- Models up to 1985: Flashing below 7 liters, permanent at 4 liters.
- Models from 1985: Flashing below approx. 7 liters (for tank with float).
-Speed signal: amplification of the sensor signal for use with modern speedometers.
-Status LEDs: Indicators for speed, neutral position and reserve.
The robust housing is manufactured using a 3D printing process and encapsulated with epoxy resin for water resistance.
