The 1070cc SE Sport Big Bore cylinder kit is an in-house development by SE Sport-Evolution. It consists of a set of forged pistons, a set of forged H-shank connecting rods and a pair of Nikasil coated cylinders including VA pushrod tubes.
For the cylinders, we decided to rework the stock cylinders, which we offer in exchange. The original BMW cylinders are proven and of high quality, not to be compared with the quality of many after-cast accessory cylinders.
For the piston production we got a strong partner on board, the company Pistal Racing is one of the leading piston manufacturers worldwide. Pistal built Superbike pistons for our Honda and later Ducati Superbikes in our racing days, which we used successfully in both the IDM and the Superbike World Championship.
The 1070cc SE Sport Kit includes not only the pistons, which are much shorter than the original, but also high-strength forged connecting rods in H-design. The thus much lighter crankshaft drive accelerates more spontaneously high and is generally characterized by more revving joy with increased durability at the same time. The high strength of the components, forged H-connecting rods are still the design of Formula 1 and Moto GP, combined with extremely stiff pistons in "double cross" design (compare the pictures of the bottom once with other pistons), create an extreme stability and thus a long life even under the heaviest load. The piston rings, especially the oil scraper ring, is state of the art. So very good cylinder sealing with very low friction.
- light, forged and friction-reduced coated pistons
- piston in "double cross" design, extremely stable
- light forged H-profile connecting rods with ARP screws
- Nikasil coated aluminum cylinders (original BMW part) in exchange
- Lighter crankshaft drive for more spontaneous revving and generally more revving pleasure
- required when increasing the engine speed above 8.000 rpm
- fixed speed also over 9.000 rpm
- suitable for all R80 and R100 models from 09/80 onwards
- TÜV certificate in preparation (until the TÜV certificate is available, the registration can be done at our factory)
- for older models (before 1980) with 99mm crankcase opening the case must be enlarged to 100mm
The nut needed for the connecting rod screws is a 3/8 AF.
Note: The cylinders we offer in exchange. If you send us back your used R80 or R100 cylinders, we will give you a credit of 100 €.
A camshaft is not included?
The cam has an enormous influence on the engine character and should fit to the vehicle. Here is in no case much helps much. For all country road drivers who want to have it rather punchy from lower revs, we recommend the 320° or, with a tad more power on top, the 324° version. Anything above that takes power from the middle and packs peak power on top. For this, the conditions in the cylinder head should then also be created and a speed increase possibly considered. If this is your intention, we can advise you on the right choice of camshaft.
Dual ignition yes or no?
Basically, the 1070cc SE Sport kit can be run on single ignition. However, the conversion to dual ignition offers the possibility to increase compression and squish (area between piston crown and combustion chamber at TDC). Both lead to an increase in the mean pressure and thus to more torque and more power.
Does the combustion chamber have to be adapted?
Basically the 1070cc SE Sport-Kit can be operated with the original R80 or R100 combustion chamber. However, we recommend adapting the combustion chamber to the larger bore. We offer this service for 75 € per combustion chamber.
We offer two different 1070cc kits. One with short pistons and the necessary long H-connecting rods, the other for use with the original connecting rods. Both kits are identical in design. So both are high strength forged pistons in "double cross" design. The piston dome is identical, so the compression height and valve pocket size are the same.
What is the difference? The Power Kit with connecting rod is more suitable for the sportsman. It revs up more spontaneously and freely but that also means the throttle response and soic nature of the 2-valve becomes a bit more hectic. For drivers who like that, the Sport kit is the way to go; for performance above 85 hp with increased revs, it's a must. The torque kit maintains the good-natured character of the BMW 2V Boxer, but makes it much more powerful and of course more powerful. For all power levels up to 85 hp the best choice.
